VSOP - MRT-Kontrastmittel auf Eisenoxid-Nanopartikel Basis

MRI contrast agents based on iron-nanoparticles

Deutsch

The aim of the project is to develop an iron-based contrast agent used in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for diagnosis of vascular diseases in patients who have an issue with iodine or gadolinium based contrast agents.

There is a dilemma for vascular diagnostics in these patients. Due to their limited kidney function, the administration of standard contrast agents for vascular imaging needs to be avoided if possible. Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) using gadolinium (Gd)-containing contrast agents has been a good alternative for this group of patients until now. However, since the discovery of Gd-conditional nephrogenic systemic fibrosis and Gd deposits in the brain, these agents are also only available to a limited extent.

Therefore, the aim of the planned project is to develop a contrast agent that is safe for use in these patients to such an extent that a clinical trial can be carried out after the project has been completed.

The project has started September 1st, 2017 and is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
This website will provide further details in the near future.
